I’ve been navigating the very early stages of some client work lately, and I want to share some of this process because it offers insights for leaders struggling out there. Invariably, leaders come to me during some kind of crisis. Maybe there have been regulatory changes threatening your proven business model. Maybe a key leader just left. Maybe the culture has quietly corroded and you’re only now seeing the damage in litigation or unceasing conflict. Regardless, it’s a painful experience.
And that’s when you call me. My job is to quickly get up to speed on what are usually very dynamic details of messy situations. What I’ve found, though, is that as dynamic, urgent, and wracking as the current crisis can feel, it’s only the tip of the iceberg—dynamics that have been around for years. Sometimes decades. “What’s true,” I tell them, “is that what got you here won’t get you there. You need to jump the band-gap into a different way of being—and that needs to happen across your organization.” The takeaway today is this: as hard as it may be, as dark and uncertain as you may feel, there is a way. We can help you find the traces of light toward fresher air on the other side. —Moe |
